This extraordinary series gives a fantastic look at the west; post civil war. With emphasis on the lives and relationships of POC. Tension is there, yet there is no barriers to attraction, and successful ventures. Black and white doesn’t matter much. “ Back then when the old timers first started settling up here, it didn’t matter what your color was, as long as you could make it through the winter and hold your own, you was somebody worth having.” Myrna told this to Veronica the first day they met.
Veronica is a school teacher who has been offered a job in the settlement of Gingerville.  "Gingerville. It’s a Negro settlement. Real successful too.” According to Gertie. Veronica is a bold and driven type of character. A single lady in the west, during a time most women needed the protection of a man. When men, “ made their own law.”
Other characters include Caine the gunslinger,  Murdock, and many other good and some shady characters that make this series interesting and colorful. Throughout the  adventure and intrigue, times of reckoning and purpose, there is love and romance.

4.0 out of 5 stars A fun, wild read!

Although, I like Western movies, I had never read a Western novel before. The coverand synopsis intrigued me enough to make me want to buy the book to find out more about the man on the cover, who I'm guessing is none other than Caine Fuller! The book is chalk full of interesting characters. My favorite, was Caine. He was the fastest draw in the west! And the women in the story certainly knew how to handle themselves, especially Veronica Murray, Caine's love interest. I like the way Ms. Hall unveils little hints about the characters' past; that way it kept the story interesting and the pacing even. I would definitely recommend this book! I'm looking forward to reading the follow-up to this story. Good work, Sandra Hall.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent

Kudos to the author for a great story with interesting characters, vivid and often funny dialogue, and lots of believable action. Loved Caine and Ronnie; both had strong, convincing roles. Hope to read more about the secondary characters, especially Mark and Fannie, and Brad and Janis. Gerald was a trip; hope the ole fool gets his due for trying to manipulate people.
5.0 out of 5 stars Guys and gals
Reviewed in the United States on June 1, 2015I just loved to read The Outlaw series.

This western is so unusual. In most of the western that I read, the guys are ones that's doing the shooting. Such genius, S.H. you let the gals in on the action too. You mixed and matched your characters beautifully.
I am looking for book 3, ready for some more good reads
